The word wagashi is a combination of the two Japanese words waga (Japanese: 話, “conversation”) and shi (Japanese: 果, “fruit”). Wagashi can be made from a variety of ingredients, including beans, rice, fruits, and nuts. The most well known type of wagashi is probably daifuku, a round mochi stuffed with sweet red bean paste.
